There are multitude ways by which you can help your children develop reading and writing skills. Word families and rhyming words are the best and the most wonderful means of helping them enhance their reading skills and vocabulary.
Following are some of the rhyming words activities that can add more fun, joy and entertainment to the learning sessions.
- Nursery Rhymes
Try to brainstorm various nursery rhymes in a class. Encourage children to sing or say the rhymes and help them find rhyming words. Ask them if they can think of some rhyming words after making them learn the concept of rhymes. - Rhyme Rap Brainstorm different ideas for rapping and write the first line with children. Then ask them to write one line each of rap. Then develop some kind of music to add more fun to the session. Ask students to bang the tables and produce a drum beat.
- Rhyme Round Ask all the students to sit in a big circle. Take a ball and roll it to a student to say a rhyming word. Ask him to pass the ball to a different student and let the game go on as more and more students come up with learning more rhyming words.
- Rhyming Hunt Play a game with your children at home. Pick up an object like mat. Ask your child to pick up another object from the house that rhymes with the name of the object that you have picked.
- Sing-Along Sing rhymes and lullabies to your child to comfort and relax them. Then discuss some rhyming words present in the rhymes you sang.
- Match the Following Take a piece of paper and draw or print as many objects on the paper. Ask your child to match two objects whose names rhyme with each other.
